It's true... I've crashed a wedding...
So I had a wedding to go to last night. My date ("boy") comes and picks me up, and we drive to the small town where the wedding is (aka hick-ville with a small motor speedway..yeah- gotta love the Carolinas). We find our way to the First Baptist church in the town, and we see lots of people heading into the church for the wedding. We figured we wouldn't know a lot of people, so we walked in and weren't really freaked out when we didn't recognize anyone. Like you would normally do, we signed the guest book, and walked to the sanctuary. An usher handed boy his last program, and another one offered his arm to take me to our seats. We look around, noticing how beautiful the sanctuary is, and I look at the program in boy's hands... it was then when it dawned on me... WE WERE AT THE WRONG WEDDING!!! No, the name was not misspelled on the program... we were actually at the wrong ceremony! It was amazing... we both started laughing, and came up with a course of action. When we finally got the courage to leave, we slipped down the isle, and the usher gave us the weirdest look as we ducked out.
Boy and I ran to the car, called for directions to the RIGHT church, and made a mad dash across town. While on the way, we made a phone call to boy's mom to ask the correct way to sneak into a wedding late... I'm sure you'll be glad to know we slipped in while the congregation was still standing, and the minister was talking about the importance of marriage...
Needless to say- I've learned that wedding crashing is actually a lot easier that you think it would be.
I also learned to double check the invitation before leaving the house... because there is always a chance that a wedding is happening at the exact same time at the church you accidentally go to... I'm living proof.
Moral of the story: If you're getting married and there are people there who neither you nor your spouse recognize, welcome them in anyways... chances are they just want to celebrate a wedding...even yours :)
